This program has been designed specifically for Latinas, incorporating culturally appropriate materials as well as a patient-centered perspective. All support sessions and educational workshops are conducted in Spanish and are facilitated by Latina breast cancer survivors. The program consists of the following components to heal the mind, body and spirit.
Support group for patients and survivors of breast cancer at all stages of the disease, as well as Latinas who test positive for the BCRA 1 and BRCA2 genetic test, and opt for prophylactic surgery. Information and strategies are shared in a warm and caring environment.
Educational workshops provide Latinas with the tools to adapt to the physical and emotional changes related to the disease. Workshops include: myths, effective communication with healthcare providers, lymphedema, reiki, nutrition, relaxation techniques, sexuality and intimacy issues during and after treatment, menopause, clinical trials, etc.
Social gatherings to be held on a quarterly basis to celebrate life! Caregivers and family members are welcome to attend.
Cancer Recovery Group at the YMCA in Summit
The Cancer Recovery Group at the Y is a FREE 12 week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors wanting to regain health as they have become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from treatment and/or disease. The YMCA in partnership with Curémonos provides this program in Spanish.
